Sebastian from Snowflakes in Hell

This is why I don't really like this guy.

"Again, this is not a good public face for political opposition. Once again, context matters. The people getting hysterical about this might be wrong, but I would point out that I got this from an anti-gun twitter feed. They know a public relations mistake when they see one, and this is."

And his comments from the comments section:

"Sebastian Said,

We need to normalize the sight of firearms again. Just why should we hide them away? Is it something to be ashamed of?

Let me rephrase that in a different context.

We need to normalize the sight of female breasts again. Just why should we hide them away? Is it something to be ashamed of?

Personally, I would have no problems in a society where guns and boobies were openly on display, but how do you think Americans would react to a feminist group that promoted the latter?"

How trivial of him. Is this seriously his reasoning? Here is a very vocal gun-rights activist and he's saying we shouldn't openly display our guns, a calculated move designed to de-sensitize the public to the sight of a gun and to make them feel more comfortable around guns, because it's bad PR.

Of COURSE it's bad PR, to those who already hate guns and have an agenda against them. But, we're not trying to change their minds, we're trying to change the minds of the majority of Americans who are still open-minded. Duh.

Besides, is Sebastian ashamed to be carrying guns? Then he has already bought into the emotional argument that guns are evil. One cannot play by their rules and in their stadium and expect to win.

I'm liking Sebastian less and less.

Here is my comment on Mike Vanderboegh's post on this subject:

"That, plus the story of the black guy in AZ with a shouldered AR-15 at the Obama rally thing, and this could be the start of a very GOOD trend, Sebastian. We shouldn't care whether the Left went ape-shit over it - we're not trying to change their minds regarding guns. We're trying to change the minds of fence-sitters. We need to show them that we will exercise our rights, and that no one suffers or gets injured when we exercise those rights.

Think of these open-carry protests as further warnings in the same line as letting congressmen and agency personnel know that we have taken firearm classes, we have caches of supplies hidden across the country, and have our ammo in bandoleers so they can be quickly grabbed and utilized. It lets those in power, on the left and right, know that there are still some Adults in this country. Adults who have the tools to defend against tyranny, and who have the stones to do things like show up at presidential rallies and meetings armed."

Don't listen to Sebastian for advice on gun-rights. Unless he changes his tune, and I would applaud him for it, he is being counter-productive.

Some quotes.

Progressives are in the business of complaining and denouncing — as a prelude to seeking sweeping powers to control other people's lives, in the name of curing the ills of society. The last thing they want is to discover and discuss how millions of people rose out of poverty by entirely different methods, often by freeing economies from the control of people with sweeping power over other people's lives. Poverty and economic disparities are the raw materials from which the political left manufactures a sense of moral superiority, self-importance and political power.
- Thomas Sowell

"If I see a person in need of food, what if I walk up to another person and, through threats, intimidation and coercion, take his money and give it to the needy person? I believe and hope that most Americans would see such an act as theft. Would the conclusion differ if we collectively agreed to take one person's money to feed the needy person? It'd still be theft. Immoral acts such as theft, rape and murder don't become moral when done collectively through a majority decision." -- Walter Williams

"Once one accepts the principle of self-ownership, what's moral and immoral becomes self-evident. Murder is immoral because it violates private property. Rape and theft are also immoral -- they also violate private property. Here's an important question: Would rape become morally acceptable if Congress passed a law legalizing it? You say: "What's wrong with you, Williams? Rape is immoral plain and simple, no matter what Congress says or does!" If you take that position, isn't it just as immoral when Congress legalizes the taking of one person's earnings to give to another? Surely if a private person took money from one person and gave it to another, we'd deem it theft and, as such, immoral. Does the same act become moral when Congress takes people's money to give to farmers, airline companies or an impoverished family? No, it's still theft, but with an important difference: It's legal, and participants aren't jailed." -- Walter Williams

Question

What would have happened had Europe, and later the USA, not interfered in the middle east over the last 100+ years?

15 May 2009

A Rant.

Going to restart this thing.

How can I possibly have motivation to try and succeed in this world, a world which is becoming worse by the day? Europe is an increasingly socialistic toilet and shows no signs of improving. The American national government is following Europe's example under the leadership of the Most Holy One, Our Savior On Earth. South America and Africa? They haven't destroyed themselves yet? Weird. I suppose I could pull a Jim Rogers and move to China, but 'if ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom — go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.'

The most I can do is take responsibility for my actions, pay back those who have helped me, and simply just try to live. I can't start some businesses that I've wanted to for some time, because the risks are too high. I'd like to say something like "I'm not afraid enough of losing something that I won't try to have it," but I'd probably be lying. We're not talking about simply being rejected by a woman, or being cut from a sports team. We're talking about the federal government bringing as much power to bear as it wants to in order to shut me down, simply because politicians and
bureaucrats, and of course their special interest groups that fund their campaigns, have decided that I am an Enemy of Progress.

Progress? Reverting to a socialist system is not progressive - it's regressive.

For you optimists, how do you think these next four years will turn out? The masses will eventually see what a folly His Holy Worshipfullness, Obama, Peace Be Upon His Name, Amen, was and they will all turn instead to freedom, and a system of firm property rights and a market-economy? If so, why? If not, then what do you propose?

They will not see what a mistake voting for the Holy One was, because they still believe voting accomplishes anything. I believe it was P.J. O'Rourke who said "if voting actually accomplished anything, it would be made illegal." For close to a century,
century, that's 100 years, folks, we've had an establishment shrill who was hand-picked and groomed for the white house, every single election. Have freedoms in this country been expanding or disappearing? Exactly. Each president, administration, and congress has been worse than the last! Wake up. Vote the bums out? Why, so we can vote some new bums in?

Instead of simply voting, or maybe along with voting, we should be preparing against an increasingly hostile government for some kind of Restoration, as Mike Vanderboegh has described?

I'm not at all optimistic. Why? Because things are only going to get worse, and when it comes to freedom and politics, freedom never follows chaos. Ever.

The American Revolution and the aftermath was a fluke. For the most part, the revolutionaries were very smart, well-educated, thinking, compassionate men, and they understood that a civil war that followed the secession of the colonies would have been despicable, not to mention the reconquering of the colonies that could have taken place if it had been plunged into civil war. But, that class of human is gone. Exceedingly rare at the very least.

The most anyone will be able to do is say "it's best to leave me alone," to the blockleiters, Obamatrons, Brown Shirts, and census takers who come knocking on your door requesting - and, in the chance that you refuse, demanding - your loyalty and service to His Highness, and to the State.

But, empty threats don't mean shit. So, be prepared to back that up in whatever way you deem necessary and prudent.

The Great Global Warming Swindle

This powerful documentary shows the true nature of "global warming", including the political motivations behind it and the anti-capitalist and anti-industrial development mentality behind the movement. Truly and eye-opener.

Civic Literacy Report

Here is a civic literacy quiz from the Intercollegiate Studies Institute to determine how knowledgeable you are about Social Studies in this country. Remember "Social Studies" means the collection of social sciences, such as law, history, sociology, economics, etc., that everyone should have learned in various high school and college classes. (lawl, yeah right).

"The average score for all 2,508 Americans taking the following test was 49%; college educators scored 55%."

The worst scoring group was the self-identified "public officials" group, which consisted of people who have, at one time or another, held an elected position.

I scored a 97%, which means only one question wrong, number 7:

7)
What was the source of the following phrase: “Government of the people, by the people, for the people”?

Oops, darn, one wrong. I actually kicked myself in the butt for getting it wrong.

Here's where they explain the findings of the quiz.
